Wilson and Brun share halfway lead at the Empordà Challenge

The pair sit two strokes clear of Germany’s Max Rottluff, who carded a second consecutive round of 66 to take solo third place at the halfway stage.

Wilson started the second round one stroke off the lead  and is pleased to have found some form after missing the last three cuts.

“I played really solid,” Wilson said. “I played nice again yesterday and I just wanted to get the monkey off my back as I missed the last three cuts, so I just wanted to make the weekend and see what I can do.

“I think it is my scoring ability, I’ve really struggled in my last three events ; it’s been pretty dreadful to be honest with you. I holed a few putts at the crucial times and carried that on.”

Brun continued his consistent run of form having had three top ten finishes in his last three starts on the Road to Mallorca and is one step closer to securing a third Challenge Tour title and adding to his win at the Open de Bretagne earlier this year.

The Frenchman currently sits in fifth position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and he admitted that he has felt a lot more relaxed in the last few events with the European Tour well within his sights for next year.

“There’s been a few events now where I have felt a bit more relaxed,” Brun said. “I am really focused on my process and my work, and I try to get better every day. I try to play better on the course and get that momentum and that work for next year on the main tour.

“I am very pleased, because I don’t feel that great with my game especially off the tee and with the long shots, so I am very pleased with the position I am in.”

Hugo Leon, winner of the British Challenge Presented by Modest! Golf Management earlier this season, posted the low round of the week, a ten under par round of 61, to move 84 placess to 21st.

B-NL Challenge Trophy winner Alfredo Garcia-Heredia takes up fourth spot alongside Jacques Blaauw of South Africa and Sweden’s Jen Dantorp. Four players, including Road to Mallorca Number Six Ewen Ferguson, are a shot further back in a tie for seventh place on eight under par.

The third round of the Empordà Challenge will begin at 8:20am local time with Wilson teeing it up at 12:10pm alongside Brun and Rottluff.
