Syed Mahdi Mahbeer, affectionately known as Shanto, is an 11-year-old rising star in the world of golf. A student at Shaheen English Medium College, his passion for the game began at the tender age of 3, guided by his father and mentor. With 24 trophies to his name and a dream of reaching the PGA Tour by 2033, Shanto is already making waves on the junior golf circuit. As he prepares for the 2024 Hainan Junior Golf Tour Final, this young talent is determined to represent Bangladesh on the global stage.

Tell us about yourself and your family.
Syed Mahdi Mahbeer, known as Shanto, is an 11-year-old junior golfer from Dhaka. He is a student at Shaheen English Medium College (SEMC) and has a passion for football and music. His father, Wing Commander Syed Saiful Alam, is a pilot and his mentor in golf, while his mother, Wing Commander Manira Yeasmin, and younger brother are his biggest supporters.

How did you first get into golf, and at what age?
Shanto was introduced to golf at the age of 3 by his father. Practicing at Shaheen Golf and Country Club Patenga (SGCCP), his natural talent quickly became evident. His father’s belief in his potential ignited his love for the game.

Golf is a way of life for Shanto. It teaches him patience, discipline, and perseverance, helping him grow as both a golfer and a person.

How do you balance golf and studies?
Shanto balances his time with a set schedule, prioritizing both school and golf. His family and coaches help him stay focused on his goals.

Favorite golf course?
Shanto’s favorites are Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC) for its structure and beauty, and Shaheen Golf and Country Club Patenga (SGCCP), where he has fond memories with friends and family.

Who is your coach, and how often do you train?
Shanto trains six days a week under Md Rasel at KGC, focusing on improving technique, mental toughness, and fitness.

Have you trained with professional golfers?
Yes, Shanto has trained with several professional golfers, including Md Hannan and Md Shah Alam. Each coach has contributed significantly to his development.
What’s the most challenging part of golf?
Maintaining consistency under pressure is the toughest aspect of the game for Shanto. He is working on mental toughness and staying positive through challenges.
Which part of your game needs improvement?
