Søren Kjeldsen Dominates PGA TOUR Champions Q-School with Record Win
Denmark’s Søren Kjeldsen claimed a historic victory at the PGA TOUR Champions Qualifying Tournament Final Stage, winning by an impressive eight strokes. The tournament, held at TPC Scottsdale’s Champions Course, saw Kjeldsen deliver a stunning performance with a final-round 66 on Friday, finishing at 24-under-par.
The 49-year-old, who turns 50 in May 2025, achieved the lowest total score since the Final Stage switched to a 72-hole format in 2006. His win also marked the largest margin of victory in the tournament’s history, surpassing Bob Gilder’s seven-stroke triumph in 2000. Kjeldsen led the event from start to finish, staying ahead after each round and closing with the day’s best score.
“This week has been unbelievable,” Kjeldsen said. “I was really nervous at the start, but I settled in and played some of the best golf of my life. Having my son Emil as my caddie made it even more special.”
Sweden’s Freddie Jacobson finished second at 16-under, after starting the tournament with three strong rounds. “Today was tough,” Jacobson admitted. “I haven’t been competing much, so I felt the nerves, but I’m glad I held it together in the end.”
Mark Walker, Felipe Aguilar, and Brendan Jones tied for third at 14-under, earning their PGA TOUR Champions cards for 2025. Walker, 57, has experience on the Champions Tour, including a top-six finish in 2022. Aguilar, who recently turned 50, dominated at the First Stage Q-School in Florida last month. Jones, an Australian, joins a growing list of compatriots earning Champions Tour status.
