Tell us about your journey in golf.
I am Md. Solayeman, a professional golfer from Savar Golf Club. My journey in professional golf began in 2017, and it has been an incredible experience since then. The support I receive from Savar Golf Club has played a crucial role in my development as a golfer. I am truly grateful to the club, our Commanding Officer (CO) sir, and the caddie master for their continuous encouragement, providing us with great opportunities for practice and competition.
How has Savar Golf Club contributed to your development as a golfer?
Savar Golf Club has been my second home. It offers world-class facilities that allow us to practice regularly and participate in various competitions. Our CO sir and the caddie master have been instrumental in providing us with everything we need to sharpen our skills. Without their consistent support and encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
What challenges have you faced on your journey as a professional golfer?
Every journey comes with its challenges, and mine is no different. There were times when I struggled with form, and finding sponsorships or maintaining consistency wasn’t easy. However, the love for the game and the support from my club kept me motivated. I believe every setback is a learning opportunity that makes me stronger.
What’s the most memorable moment of your golf career so far?
Winning the BPGA Open 2024 is definitely the highlight of my career. It’s not just because I won, but because I achieved this on my home course, which makes it even more special. The atmosphere, the cheers from familiar faces—it was unforgettable.
What do you think makes a great golfer?
A great golfer isn’t just about technical skills; it’s about mental toughness, patience, and discipline. The ability to stay calm under pressure, recover from setbacks, and continuously strive for improvement sets the best players apart. Having a strong support system also plays a crucial role.
How do you feel about the future of golf in Bangladesh?
The future looks bright. With more tournaments like the BPGA Open being organized and more young players showing promise, I believe Bangladesh can produce top-level golfers who can compete internationally. All we need is continued support from clubs, sponsors, and organizers to nurture the talent we have.
What’s your opinion on the BPGA Open 2024?
This tournament is a fantastic initiative. Events like the BPGA Open are essential for motivating players and fostering new talent. The more tournaments we have, the more opportunities players will get to grow and improve. I hope the organizers will continue to arrange more events like this in the future, as they inspire all of us to perform better.
How does it feel to be the champion of BPGA Open 2024?
It feels amazing to win the BPGA Open 2024! I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. My performance across the rounds was steady – starting with a solid three-under-par in the first round, followed by a one-under. Today, everything clicked, and I finished with an outstanding six-under-par. This victory is dedicated to my parents and the people of my country. Their support means everything to me, and I am proud to bring this win home.
What are your next goals after winning the BPGA Open 2024?
This victory has motivated me to aim higher. My next goal is to perform well in international tournaments and represent Bangladesh on a global stage. I also want to inspire the next generation of golfers and contribute to the development of the sport in our country.
