Sabbir Khan Shafin has recently been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of The Bangladesh Professional Golfers’ Association (BPGA).
The Executive Committee of BPGA appointed Mr. Sabbir as BPGA’s operational head, effective from September 1, 2022, considering his sports background at professional level, administrative and organizational experience and expertise. Prior joining BPGA, he served Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as Cricket Operations Manager with the responsibility of managing Bangladesh national cricket team and “A” team. He served BCB for 12 years in various capacities in Tournament Committee, Game Development and Cricket Operations. Additionally, he was Bangladesh national team’s Operations Manager in more than 30 international series including four ICC Events (World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy).
Worth mention that Mr. Sabbir is a former national cricketer and was the captain of Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team. He participated in First Class Cricket and highest level of domestic cricket from 1997 to 2007.
The 44-year-old is a golf enthusiastic and member of Ghatail and Bogura Golf Club since 2016. He is very keen and a regular amateur golfer at KGC and AGC.
Brig Gen Md Ahsanul Huq Mia, NDC (Retd.) the Secretary General of BPGA, said: “Appointing the first COO for BPGA is a milestone to create a strong structure for professional golf in Bangladesh. I wish Mr. Sabbir a successful endeavour and believe that he will make significant impact on the growth of professional golf.”
Mr. Sabbir is also very excited with this venture. He said: “I would like to thank the EC, BPGA to keep faith on me. I will try to go beyond my capacity to raise the bar and set a new standard for professional golf in Bangladesh. There is nothing more to be proud of than to dedicate oneself to a profession where you have the opportunity to raise your country’s flag high through sports.”
