Brig Gen Md Zahidur Rahman, Vice President of Cox’s Bazar Golf & Country Club, hopes the golf club, when finished construction, will attract a lot of golfers from Bangladesh and beyond.
Q: Tell us about the Ramu Golf and Country Club and the course in here.
A: The dream about the Cox’s Bazar Golf and Country Club began with the then GOC in 2015. He thought there should be a golf course for the Ramu Cantonment as well as for the people of Cox’s Bazar area. He started planning the course, and in course of time, he contacted Bangladesh Golf Federation. With the support of Brigadier General (retd) Selim Akhter, we started the planning part. Alhamdulillah by now we have already started the preparation work for this course.
As you know this golf course is an eco-friendly golf course and we want to maintain it that way. We hired Paul Jensen, a renowned golf architect. He took the mapping of this course, designed it and he came again to see the development of the course. We have also got Mr Ramesh, a Nepalese international shaper. We have already concluded two holes and the third one is ongoing.
This is a golf course with a scenic beauty. There are lots of ups and downs in this course. The main thing is we are keeping the natural beauty and environment intact while working on this golf course. Rather this golf club will increase the beauty as there will be cottages, a lake, a boat club and other facilities will be available in course of time.
We are planning to complete this golf course by next year. The front nine will be ready for playing by May 2018. By 2019 we will hopefully complete the back nine also.
As you know, Cox’s Bazar is in close proximity, some 30 minutes drive from here. We hope this course will be even better than Kurmitola, Bhatiary or Mainamati. After visiting second time, Mr Jensen said that if we can continue like this, it could be one of the best golf courses in South Asia.
