Poston secured his third PGA Tour win
J.T. Poston secured his third PGA Tour win at the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open, prevailing in a closely contested tournament at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. Amidst strong winds and tough playing conditions, Poston delivered a stellar performance to finish at 22 under par, narrowly edging out Doug Ghim by one stroke.
This victory marks Poston’s first tour win in over two years and comes after a series of solid performances that had already guaranteed him spots in next season’s signature PGA Tour events, thanks to his top 50 finish in the FedEx Cup standings. However, with this win, Poston also secures his invitations to the prestigious Masters and PGA Championship tournaments.
Starting the final day with a three-stroke lead over Ghim, Poston expanded his lead early, notching two birdies within the first four holes. Despite this strong start, the competition intensified on the front nine as Ghim mounted a comeback, highlighted by an eagle on the ninth hole, closing the gap to a single stroke.
The back nine saw Poston regain control, particularly with a critical 23-foot birdie on the 12th hole, which reestablished a comfortable lead. He maintained his composure through the final holes, effectively securing the win despite late challenges.
