Petersen Leads The Rolex Challenge Tour Final
Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen surged to the top of the leaderboard at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final after an incredible bogey-free 62 in the third round, giving him a one-shot lead over Spain’s Angel Ayora. Neergaard-Petersen, who already secured his DP World Tour card in September, is aiming for his fourth victory of the season and to become the second Danish winner of the Grand Final.
Starting five shots behind, the 25-year-old quickly closed the gap with three birdies in his first five holes and gained momentum on the back nine, adding six more birdies to reach 22 under par for the week at Club de Golf Alcanada. “I played great today and felt a lot better than yesterday,” Neergaard-Petersen said. “I got the putter rolling, especially on the back nine, and it was fun to be out there.”
Ayora remains in contention after a steady 68, finishing one shot behind Neergaard-Petersen. The 20-year-old Spaniard recorded three birdies and three bogeys on the front nine but made a strong recovery with four birdies on the back. Ayora would need a win and for Neergaard-Petersen to finish no higher than third to claim the Number One spot in the Road to Mallorca Rankings, which would make him the youngest player to do so.
