Md. Rakibur Rahman: A Trailblazer in Agriculture And Golf in Bangladesh
Md. Rakibur Rahman, fondly known as Tutul, is a trailblazer in both agriculture and golf in Bangladesh. As the Managing Director of Nahar Agro, a leading entity in dairy, poultry, fisheries, and horticulture, Rahman is shaping the future of the nation’s protein sector. Beyond his business accomplishments, he is a passionate golfer and an ardent supporter of the sport, particularly in Chattogram. A member of multiple prestigious golf clubs, he is committed to promoting golf among youths and women while nurturing the next generation of players.
From Agro to Golf: A Journey of Passion
Golf captivated me from an early age,” shares Rahman. His fascination with the lush greenery of golf courses and the sport’s elegance stayed with him throughout his life. In 2010, his journey as a golfer began when he joined the Bhatiary Golf & Country Club (BGCC). Starting as a casual player, he quickly became engrossed in the game, participating in tournaments across Dhaka, BGCC, and Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC). Over the years, his dedication to golf has grown exponentially. He has inspired family, friends, and neighbors to embrace the sport, many of whom now play regularly and win trophies. Rahman himself has won countless accolades, even earning the title of club champion, while maintaining a single-digit handicap despite a demanding schedule.
Professional golfers have the potential to elevate our country’s pride globally, and I am dedicated to supporting that vision.
A Family Affair
For Rahman, golf is more than a personal pursuit—it’s a family passion. His sons are avid players, his daughter has started learning the game, and his wife is a constant presence on the course, supporting him in tournaments. “Golf strengthens our bond as a family,” Rahman remarks, recalling fond memories of his late mother humorously urging him to leave some trophies for others.
Promoting Golf and Building Community
Rahman’s contributions to golf extend beyond his personal achievements. Under his leadership, Nahar Agro has sponsored professional golf tournaments since 2016, fostering the sport’s growth on both national and international stages. “Professional golfers have the potential to elevate our country’s pride globally,” he explains. His goal is to make golf a popular sport among future generations, emphasizing its inclusivity and the life skills it teaches. As a founding member of Ramu Golf & Country Club and a proud member of BGCC and Shahin Golf & Country Club, Rahman has played a pivotal role in developing golf communities. He actively encourages young talents and supports women’s participation in golf, creating a vibrant and diverse ecosystem around the sport.
Golf and Business: A Perfect Balance
Rahman believes golf offers invaluable lessons for business professionals. “Golf teaches integrity, personal accountability, and discipline,” he says. The sport also provides a unique blend of physical activity, mental rejuvenation, and networking opportunities. He often plays early in the morning after Fajr prayer, balancing his passion for golf with his professional commitments.
Rahman emphasizes the transformative power of golf: “The serenity of the course clears the mind and recharges the spirit. It’s a space where we can connect with nature, enjoy camaraderie, and grow as individuals.
A Vision for the Future
Rahman envisions a future where golf becomes a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s sporting culture, with more business professionals and families embracing its values. Through his efforts, he hopes to inspire the next generation of players, elevate the sport’s profile, and build a strong, inclusive golfing community in Bangladesh. Golf is more than a game—it’s a way to connect with nature, foster friendships, and contribute to personal and societal growth,” Rahman reflects. His journey as a golfer and a patron of the sport stands as a testament to the transformative power of passion and dedication.
