Matsuyama Sets PGA Tour Record With Stunning 35-Under-Par
In a spectacular start to the PGA Tour season, Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama has shattered the 72-hole scoring record by finishing at an astonishing 35-under-par at The Sentry Tournament held in Kapalua, Hawaii. The 2021 Masters champion delivered a mesmerizing final round of 65 on the Plantation Course, surpassing the previous record of 34-under set by Cameron Smith in 2022.
Matsuyama’s historic performance included an eagle, seven birdies, and just a single bogey. His birdie on the 18th hole not only sealed the victory but also the record, sparking celebrations and a heartfelt reaction from the golfer. “That last putt, it felt like if I make it, it’s going to be the record, so I’m so happy that it went in,” Matsuyama expressed through a translator after his win.
American golfer Collin Morikawa, who was just a stroke behind entering the final round, finished strong at 32-under to secure second place. Despite his commendable score, Morikawa reflected on missed opportunities during the day, “There was a good handful of shots I wish I could have back,” he noted, acknowledging Matsuyama’s relentless performance.
