Golfer Leads Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final
Spain’s Angel Ayora heads into the weekend with a two-shot lead at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final, supported by The R&A, after delivering a bogey-free 65 at Club de Golf Alcanada. Following a course record 62 in the first round, Ayora continued his impressive form with seven birdies to reach a tournament total of 17 under par in Alcúdia, maintaining his top position ahead of Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan, who carded a superb 64 to sit at 15 under par.
The 20-year-old Spaniard showed confidence from the start, opening with a birdie on the par-five first hole and adding further gains at the fourth and seventh to make the turn at three under. Four more birdies on the back nine saw him secure a commanding lead before play was briefly suspended due to lightning. Upon resuming, Ayora held steady, parring his way to the clubhouse.
Ayora, currently sixth on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, is projected to climb to the Number One spot. A win would make him the third Spaniard to top the Challenge Tour Rankings, following Carl Suneson (1999) and Alvaro Velasco (2010).
Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, ranked second heading into the season finale, sits in third at 12 under par. Finland’s Oliver Lindell follows in fourth place at 10 under.
