The 2024 Genesis Championship, held at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon, marks a new chapter in professional golf by merging two prestigious tournaments: the DP World Tour’s Korea Championship and the KPGA TOUR’s Genesis Championship. This unified event brings together 120 players, including 90 from the DP World Tour and 30 from the KPGA TOUR, creating a stronger and more diverse field.
This tournament is a key outcome of the strategic alliance between the DP World Tour and the KPGA, announced in May 2023, which aims to provide more opportunities for Korean players to compete internationally. The partnership has also expanded Genesis’ commitment to golf, with the luxury automotive brand becoming the title partner for three years, building on its involvement in events like the Genesis Invitational and the Presidents Cup.
As the final tournament in the DP World Tour’s “Back 9” series, the Genesis Championship plays a crucial role in the Race to Dubai, with 5,000 points available. It also serves as the last opportunity for players to secure their spot in the top 110 of the Race to Dubai Rankings, guaranteeing their tour membership for the 2025 season. Currently, Germany’s Freddy Schott holds the critical 114th position, the cutoff for retaining membership due to four additional qualifying players.
Notable competitors in the field include Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal, who returns to defend his title, and South Korea’s Park Sang-hyun, a past champion at this venue. World No. 25 Tom Kim leads a strong contingent of Korean players, alongside Byeong Hun An, a Presidents Cup teammate and former BMW PGA Championship winner. Making his debut in Korea is Nicolai Højgaard, a member of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team, joined by Vice Captain Edoardo Molinari.

Players competing in the Genesis Championship will also have exciting incentives, with Genesis offering luxury vehicles for any hole-in-ones on the 17th and 8th holes. The first player to ace the 17th hole will win a Genesis GV70, with their caddie receiving a GV60. On the 8th hole, a Genesis GV80 Black awaits the first player to sink a hole-in-one, while the tournament champion will be awarded a Genesis Electrified G80.
The Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea, known for its mix of urban views and natural scenery, provides a scenic setting for the competition. With bent grass used throughout the course, it stands out among inland courses in Korea. This venue has a history of hosting prestigious events, including the 2015 Presidents Cup and the 2016 Asia Pacific Amateur Championship, making it a fitting host for the newly launched Genesis Championship.
The event also concludes the DP World Tour’s five-stop Asian swing, following tournaments in Singapore, India, Japan, and China, further solidifying the Genesis Championship’s role as a premier international golf event. With a global field and significant stakes, the tournament promises to deliver an exciting finale to the regular season before the Race to Dubai Playoffs begin.
