John Parry Secures First DP World Tour Victory in 14 Years
John Parry of England delivered an outstanding final-round performance, shooting a 64 to claim victory at the Mauritius Open. This marks his first win on the DP World Tour in 14 years, finishing with a score of 14-under-par.
The leaderboard was tightly contested. Parry was followed closely by South Africans Dylan Naidoo and Christo Lamprecht, who tied for second place at 12-under-par. Just behind them, Jovan Rebula finished solo fourth at 11-under. A group of players including Denmark’s Asbjørn Halvorsen, Germany’s Felix Schott, and South Africans Richard Sterne and Callum Burke, rounded out the top spots, all tied at 10-under.
Starting the day five shots off the lead, Parry’s final round was highlighted by a flurry of seven birdies and an eagle, catapulting him past his competitors into the lead. His victory at the Mauritius Open is his first tour win since the Vivendi Cup in Sweden in 2010.
Having battled through challenging times, including a stint on the third-tier EuroPro Tour where he contemplated ending his professional golf career, Parry’s comeback has been remarkable. He credits his return to the top tier to his victories on the 2024 Challenge Tour.
Reflecting on his triumphant return, Parry expressed to Sky Sports the immense relief and fulfillment this victory brings: “It’s massive. There was a time, maybe five or six years ago, when I was on the EuroPro Tour, I was close to giving up golf. It’s been a long battle back but worth every moment for this week.”
