Donald Trump is set to open a second golf course in Aberdeenshire next year. The 18-hole links course, named the MacLeod Course in honor of Trump’s Lewis-born mother, Mary MacLeod, is expected to welcome golfers at the Trump International resort in Menie by the summer of 2025. According to the resort, the new course will boast the “largest sand dunes in Scotland” and, together with the original course, completed in 2012, will form what they claim to be “the greatest 36 holes in golf.”

Trump and his son Eric broke ground on the project last year, three years after it was approved by the local council. However, the resort has been no stranger to controversy. Four years ago, the dunes at Menie lost their status as a nationally-important protected site. Despite this, Trump International asserts that the MacLeod Course is “one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable” golf courses ever built.

Images reveal a striking landscape, with areas of rough covered in heather, and the course situated just yards from the North Sea. Sarah Malone, Executive Vice President of Trump International Scotland, described the course as “one of the great wonders in the world of golf.” She noted, “Since breaking ground with President Trump and Eric Trump last spring, we’ve made remarkable progress. This course exceeds every expectation, offering a unique links experience.”

The course is the product of a collaborative effort involving architects, engineers, environmental scientists, and other industry specialists. Trump handed over control of his golf businesses to his sons shortly before taking office in 2017 but still retains a financial interest in both resorts.

Trump International Golf Club Scotland, which operates the club north of Aberdeen, opened amidst opposition over concerns of environmental damage to what was once a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Meanwhile, Trump’s Turnberry course in Ayrshire recently gained attention for being the most expensive golf course in the UK, with fees soaring up to £1,000 per round.
