Cricket great Kapil Dev becomes new India golf chiefKapil Dev, India’s World Cup-winning cricket captain, has been appointed as the president of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). PGTI chief executive, Uttam Singh Mundy, stated that Dev’s “valuable experience as a professional sportsman” would contribute to “the further growth of Indian professional golf.”

Dev, 65, is renowned as one of the world’s greatest all-rounders. He led India to their first World Cup victory in 1983 and retired in 1994 with a remarkable record of 434 Test wickets and 5,248 runs. The historic World Cup final win against the West Indies at Lord’s sparked a cricket revolution in India.

After retiring from cricket, Dev turned his focus to golf. He expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, saying it would allow him to “spend more time with my golfing friends and play a little more.”
