Commercial Bank Qatar Masters Makes a Grand Return to Doha Golf Club

Commercial Bank Qatar Masters MakesThe Commercial Bank Qatar Masters is set to captivate the golfing world once again as it returns to Doha Golf Club, Qatar, for its 28th edition. As a significant event on the 2025 Race to Dubai, the tournament boasts a prize fund of $2.5 million and offers 1,000 Ryder Cup points, making it a crucial stop for players aiming to climb the rankings.

This year’s tournament marks a milestone for Commercial Bank, celebrating its 20th year as the title sponsor and its 50th anniversary since its establishment in 1975. With the event firmly embedded in the history of Middle Eastern golf, it continues to serve as a premier stage for top-tier international competition.

The International Swing, the second of five Global Swings in the 2025 Race to Dubai, features this tournament as its fourth event. Following the Team Cup, Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Ras Al Khaimah Championship, and Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, the Qatar Masters provides another opportunity for players to earn valuable points before the swing moves to Kenya and South Africa.

Since its inception in 1998, the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters has been hosted at Doha Golf Club for all but two years. The venue, designed by Peter Harradine, features a challenging 18-hole Championship Course and a nine-hole floodlit academy course. The tournament has witnessed legendary performances, including Adam Scott’s course record of 11-under-par 61 in 2008, which secured his second victory in the event.

A Strong Field Featuring Past Champions and Rising Stars

The tournament boasts a strong lineup of competitors, including past champions Ewen Ferguson (2022), Antoine Rozner (2021), Jorge Campillo (2020), Justin Harding (2019), Eddie Pepperell (2018), Chris Wood (2013), Alvaro Quiros (2009), and Darren Fichardt (2003).

The last two winners, Rikuya Hoshino (2024) and Sami Välimäki (2023), leveraged their victories in Qatar to secure dual membership on the PGA TOUR for the following season. Hoshino finished 16th on the 2024 Race to Dubai Rankings, while Välimäki ended 12th in 2023, ultimately securing his playing rights on the PGA TOUR for 2025.

Six of this season’s winners on the Race to Dubai will tee it up, including Laurie Canter, who recently triumphed at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. The current International Swing Rankings leader is Laurie Canter (ENG) with 897 points, followed closely by Tyrrell Hatton (835 points) and Daniel Hillier (589.12 points).

Exciting Prize and Special Initiatives

Adding to the tournament’s excitement, a hole-in-one prize is up for grabs on Hole 13, where the first player to achieve the feat during any of the four rounds will receive $155,000 worth of Qatar Duty Free vouchers.

The DP World Tour’s ‘Golf for Good’ initiative will also be prominently featured, with Bapco Energies pioneering environmental initiatives to make the event more sustainable. The tournament will utilize solar-powered hospitality structures, hydrogen-powered buses, and other eco-friendly measures to push towards a carbon-neutral tournament in the near future.

Additionally, the DP World Tour’s ‘Balls for Birdies’ initiative, which donates golf balls to grassroots programs worldwide, will continue during the Qatar Masters. Golf balls will be donated based on player performance, with one ball for every birdie, two for an eagle, and 100 for an albatross, with the total number of balls being delivered to beneficiaries at the end of the 2025 Race to Dubai.
