The American Express Clinching Third PGA Tour Title
Sepp Straka secured his third PGA Tour victory at The American Express in California, overcoming a late challenge from Justin Thomas. Straka entered the final round with a commanding four-shot lead and, despite a few shaky moments that saw him drop shots on two of the last three holes, managed to finish the tournament with a score of 25-under-par. His final round of 70 was enough to clinch a two-shot victory over Thomas, who finished strong with a 66 to secure second place at 23-under.
Straka, the first Austrian to win on the tour three years ago, was on track to complete the tournament without a single bogey—a feat not achieved on the tour since 2022—until he encountered difficulties on the 16th and 18th holes. Despite these challenges, Straka’s performance under pressure was commendable, especially given the high stakes of leading into the final round for the first time in his career.
Thomas, meanwhile, made a valiant effort to close the gap, particularly with an impressive front nine where he moved up the leaderboard. However, his momentum stalled, and he finished the round with seven straight pars. Other notable players in the field included Justin Lower and Jason Day, who tied for third, and Patrick Cantlay along with Charley Hoffman, who both finished at 20 under.
