The fourth edition of the Chittagong Open golf tournament will be held at the pristine Bhatiary Golf & Country Club (BGCC) in Chattogram from March 7 to 10 and will carry a prize purse of BDT 57 lacs.
The tournament, co-sanctioned by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and the Bangladesh Professional Golfers Association (BPGA) and approved by Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF), is the second biggest event of the continent in terms of prize money.
This will be a 72-hole stroke-play tournament featuring a field of 125 players including 55 professionals from the BPGA and 62 professionals from the PGTI. There will also be a number of amateurs from BGCC.
The cut will be applied after the first 36 holes. The top 50 players and ties will make the halfway cut and continue to play for another 36 holes. This tournament, PGTI’s first in Bangladesh this year after the Covid outback, is set to feature some of the top names of the South Asian region.
Even though the event is part of India’s premier tour, there will be representatives from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, USA, Australia and Africa.
Siddikur Rahman, Zamal Hossain Mollah and Shakhawat Hossain Sohel will lead the charge for the host nation. Defending champion N. Thangaraja alongside PGTI regulars Udayan Mane, Rashid Khan, Khalin Joshi, Adil Bedi, Viraj Madappa, M Dharma and Aman Raj will also be in action.
