Australian Golfer Suffers Serious Eye Injury

Jeffrey Guan, a promising 20-year-old golfer from Australia, suffered a serious eye injury during a pro-am event at Club Catalina in Batemans Bay, New South Wales, recently. The incident occurred when Guan was struck in the head by a golf ball, according to a statement by the PGA Tour of Australasia. After receiving initial treatment at Moruya District Hospital, Guan was airlifted to Canberra to consult an eye specialist. The injury occurred shortly after Guan’s return to Australia following his

PGA Tour debut at the Procore Championship in Napa, California.
A spokesperson from NSW Ambulance confirmed the incident: “We responded to reports of a man in his 20s hit in the head with a golf ball. He was treated for a head injury and transported to Moruya District Hospital.”

According to Australian Golf Digest, Guan’s longtime coach, Paul Davis, revealed that the young golfer sustained multiple orbital fractures from an errant tee shot by an amateur participant. The full extent of Guan’s injury remains uncertain, as further assessments are pending in Sydney.

“Obviously, there are fears he may lose some vision, but we won’t know the full extent until after the Sydney evaluation,” Davis shared with Australian Golf Digest. “It’s truly heartbreaking. This was Jeff’s first-ever pro-am, and after such a great week in California, this news is devastating.”

Jeffrey Guan, a decorated junior golfer, turned professional last fall and has already achieved seven top-25 finishes, including standout performances at last year’s Australian PGA and Australian Open. He currently holds the 989th spot in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Guan’s junior career highlights include winning the 2022 AJGA Junior Players at TPC Sawgrass and representing Australia in the Junior Presidents Cup the same year.
