Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for allowing the annual Asian Tour event in Bangladesh to be named after the father of the nation.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is also the chairperson of Bangabandhu Memorial Trust, to allow the naming of this mega event as Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2019 after the name of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. I delightfully expect Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2019 a grand success in its journey ahead. I am extremely happy and honoured to be here with you all in this mega event of Asian Tour golf in Bangladesh,” the Army Chief said during his speech at the logo unveiling ceremony of the 350,000-dollar event at the Kurmitola Golf Club on March 28.
General Aziz Ahmed, who is also the President of Bangladesh Golf Federation, felt that through this event, Bangladesh once again showed it has the ability to stage world standard events. “As the president of Bangladesh Golf Federation, I can clearly feel the height of spirit and delightfulness in the minds of all golfers here when we are able to organise such world-class international sports events in Bangladesh.”
“I am extremely happy that Bangladesh Golf Federation, with a strong commitment and efficiency, is organising such world-standard international sports event. As the president, I feel proud that BGF is organising this tournament as the country recently celebrated its 48th anniversary of Independence Day and moving steadily to become a developing country,” he said.
Calling this a historic moment, Mr. Aziz said that it was one of the finest moments for the country. “Indeed, these are the finest moments that the father of the nation had dreamt of long ago – a developed nation with world standard games and sports.”
He also extended his appreciation to all members of the organising committee, Asian Tour authority, sponsors National Bank Limited and media for their support in making this event a success.
