The estate, located near Melton Mowbray, ceased all operations on October 16, 2024, as its owners, DreamR Group, opted to liquidate the business.
The once-renowned golf course, designed by Donald Steel and associated with professional golfer Sam Torrance, had been a major draw for the venue. Its closure affected the hotel’s revenue and foreshadowed the difficulties that followed. DreamR Group, which took over the estate two years ago, struggled with declining business and challenging market conditions, leading to the final decision to shut down.
Members and guests were informed last week that Stapleford Park would no longer operate and that all club memberships were terminated immediately. In an email to members, the management stated, “With deep regret, we must inform you that Stapleford Park Hotel has stopped trading as of October 16, 2024, and your membership is now canceled. Unfortunately, adverse trading conditions have made it impossible to continue operations.”
Stapleford Park, situated within 500 acres of parkland landscaped by Capability Brown, had long been known as a luxurious countryside retreat. The estate featured 48 guest rooms, two private cottages, a high-end restaurant, and a luxury spa. Despite its prestige, the hotel struggled financially under DreamR Group’s ownership. Earlier this year, the group brought in M&T Hotel Management, a Bristol-based consultancy, in an attempt to stabilize operations, but these efforts could not prevent the closure.
With the hotel now in liquidation, the future of the historic property is uncertain. Whether it will reopen under new ownership or take on a new role depends on the outcome of the liquidation process. The closure marks the end of an era for a venue that had been a beloved escape for guests and members alike.
