Adams Golf Course to Undergo a $2.4 Million Greens Rebuild

Adams Golf Course in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, will go through a complete renovation starting November 1, the most substantial revamp since it opened in 1963. The upgrade, costing $2.4 million, is backed by a General Obligation Bond and will entail the complete overhaul of the course’s 18 greens, nursery, chipping, and putting areas, alongside significant enhancements to the drainage and irrigation systems. The target set to complete the upgradation process is set for late spring to early summer of 2025.

This period of transition is also marked by a change in leadership following the retirement of the veteran Golf Professional, Jerry Benedict, in August. Jason Dochney, a Class A PGA Professional, has been appointed as the interim director. In a recent move, the city council agreed to acquire Benedict’s business assets, including the pro shop inventory and golf carts, totaling around $150,000—a contractual obligation.
As part of these changes, all existing memberships will expire on October 31, 2024, and all ACH accounts will be closed on the same date. The city plans to issue prorated membership refunds by December 1, 2024. While the pro shop and locker rooms will close beginning November 1, the driving range will stay open and continue to accept credit and debit cards.

The Greens Rebuild Project is a strategic initiative by the city to enhance and sustain the Adams Golf Course, deemed a vital community resource. Besides serving as a recreational venue, the course is instrumental in hosting fundraising events that collectively contribute over $1 million each year to local charities. Despite operating at a loss, city officials emphasize the course’s significant role in bolstering local economic development and enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors.
